Adding a Bottle When the Barcode Is Unknown (Android 1.1.5+)
A guided walk-through of the new unknown-barcode enrichment flow
What’s new
Android 1.1.5 introduced a guided enrichment flow for barcodes that don’t match the catalog. Instead of leaving you to fill in a blank entry form, WhiskeyMate now walks you through the key fields it needs to add the bottle cleanly.
How it works
- Open the Add tab and tap the barcode scanner.
- Scan a bottle’s barcode.
- If the catalog doesn’t recognize the barcode, you’ll see an Unknown Barcode screen with friendly prompts.
- Step through the fields the app asks for: brand, subtitle, spirit type, ABV, and any other key details you want to capture.
- Tap Add to Collection when you’re happy with the entry.
Why this matters
- Bottles enter your collection with clean, structured data, not a half-empty form.
- The data you provide quietly improves the WhiskeyMate catalog for everyone over time.
- If you get interrupted, drafts are preserved so you can come back to them (starting in 1.1.8).
Tips
- You can always edit a bottle later if you skipped a field.
- Front and back bottle photos help the catalog enrich the entry further.
