How to Filter & Sort Your Whiskey Collection in Version 1.20
Master the art of organizing your whiskey collection with advanced filtering and sorting options.
Overview
WhiskeyMate includes built-in Filter and Sort controls for your collection lists. These controls live in the pinned search bar at the top of the collection view and let you narrow the list (filters) and change the order (sorting).
Where to find Filter & Sort
- iOS: In the collection view’s pinned search bar, use the Filter icon (
line.3.horizontal.decrease.circle) and the Sort icon (arrow.up.arrow.down.circle). - Android: In the pinned search bar, use the Filter button and Sort button next to the search field.
Filtering (narrow what you see)
Filtering applies a single active filter at a time (plus any supporting values like a selected brand, range, or dimension). Use Clear Filter to return to the full list.
Common filter categories
- ABV: < 40%, 40% – 50%, > 50%.
- Brand: pick a brand (grouped alphabetically).
- Date Added: Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 6 Months.
- Distillery: pick a distillery from the available list.
- Flavor Profile:
- No Flavor Profile: show bottles missing a flavor profile.
- By dimension intensity: pick a flavor dimension and filter by Low, Medium, or High intensity.
- Open / Low Stock:
- Open Bottles: bottles marked open.
- Low Stock (< 20%): bottles where percent-full × quantity falls below 20.
- Price:
- No Price: bottles with missing/zero price.
- Ranges: common buckets like < $50, $50–$100, and higher tiers (iOS includes additional buckets such as $100–$250, $250–$500, etc.).
- Price Appreciation: Appreciated (+), Depreciated (-), No Change (based on your saved price vs. community mean price when available).
- Proof: < 80, 80–100, > 100.
- Ratings (your ratings):
- No Ratings: bottles you haven’t rated yet.
- Overall Score: Low (0–49), Medium (50–74), High (75–100).
- Category scores (Nose/Taste/Finish/Body): Low (0–8), Medium (9–17), High (18–25).
- Spirit Type / Subtype: filter by spirit type and/or whiskey subtype (the available values are driven by what exists in your current list).
- Vintage: filter by a specific vintage value.
- Volume: Miniature (< 375ml), Standard (375–750ml), Large Format (> 750ml).
- Tequila support (NOM): on iOS, there is a filter for Distillery / NOM Number (when values exist).
- Single-barrel: on iOS, you can filter for Single-Barrel and Not Single-Barrel.
Sorting (change the order)
Sorting changes how the list is ordered. Choose a field and direction (Ascending/Descending). Use Clear Sort to return to the default ordering.
Common sort categories
- ABV, Brand, Date Added, Distillery, Price, Proof, Quantity, Spirit Type, Subtype, Subtitle, Vintage.
- Price Change: sort by the difference between community mean price and your saved price (when available).
- Flavor Profile dimensions:
- My Profiles: sort by a specific flavor dimension from your saved flavor profile.
- Community Profiles: sort by a specific flavor dimension from community flavor profile stats (when available).
- Ratings:
- My Ratings: sort by Overall/Nose/Taste/Finish/Body.
- Community Ratings: sort by community averages for Overall/Nose/Taste/Finish/Body (when available).
- Extra iOS-only sort options: Distillery / NOM Number, Master Distiller, and Single-Barrel.
Using search with filters & sorting
- Search ranks by relevance: When you type in the search box, WhiskeyMate prioritizes relevance ranking. If you want to strictly apply a chosen sort order, clear the search text.
- Filters + Sort together: A common workflow is to filter first (e.g., Price → No Price) and then sort (e.g., Date Added descending) to focus on cleanup tasks.
