How to Set or Update a Whiskey’s Flavor Profile with the Radar Chart
Visually capture the essence of each whiskey’s aromas and tastes
Overview
The Flavor Profile Radar Chart in WhiskeyMate helps you describe the key taste dimensions of any bottle—like sweetness, spice, or smoke. You can manually drag intensity points, pick sub-descriptors, or ask Fitz (our AI) for an instant flavor suggestion. Whether you’re on iOS or Android, this chart lets you visualize your whiskey’s unique character.
Steps to Access & Use the Flavor Chart
- Open the Whiskey Detail: From your collection or search results, tap a specific bottle to view its details. Near the bottom, you’ll find a section labeled “Flavor Profile.”
-
Select a Spirit Type (Required):
Ensure you’ve chosen the correct category (e.g., Whiskey, Rum, Tequila) under the spirit type options. The radar chart loads the relevant flavor dimensions for that category. -
Adjust Intensity:
Inside the chart, you’ll see multiple axes (e.g., “Sweetness,” “Spice,” “Smoke,” etc.). Drag the point along each axis to set how intensely it appears in this whiskey. A point closer to the center means low intensity; farther out means high intensity. -
Pick a Sub-Descriptor (Optional):
Below each axis slider, you can select a specific sub-flavor (e.g., “Caramel” under Sweetness). This helps refine the chart to highlight special notes—like “Cinnamon Spice” or “Peaty Smoke.” -
Reset or Use Fitz:
- Reset: If you want to start over, look for a “Reset” button to return all intensities to medium or your default setting.
- Ask Fitz (Premium feature): Tap “Ask Fitz!” to let our AI analyze your whiskey’s brand and subtitle, then propose a flavor profile. It’s handy for quickly exploring how others might describe your bottle.
-
Saving Your Profile:
- Update Flavor Profile: Once you’ve finished adjusting, confirm or save. WhiskeyMate will remember your intensities and descriptors for future reference.
- Community Overlay: If available, a dotted line may show how the broader community perceives that whiskey, letting you compare your palate with popular opinion.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- Wrong Spirit Category? The chart changes dimensions based on spirit type. Double-check you’ve selected the right category (e.g., “Whiskey” or “Vodka”) so you get the correct axes.
- Points or Sub-Descriptors Missing? Try dragging each axis point outward or tapping a sub-descriptor menu if you see it. Not all types have the same flavor categories.
- Need More Explanations? Tap “Ask Fitz!” on a Premium account. Fitz can generate more in-depth notes or help refine sub-descriptors.
- Showing “No Flavor Profile Found”? Some lesser-known spirit types might be grouped under “Other.” If so, you’ll see more generic categories until we add specialized ones.
- Internet Connection Required? Basic chart dragging is offline, but Fitz’s AI suggestions need a network connection.
