Feature Explanation
How WhiskeyMate Handles Currency: Your Display Currency and Original Prices
Totals in the currency you choose; each bottle keeps the currency you paid in
Two kinds of currency
WhiskeyMate tracks currency in two places:
- Your display currency is the one you choose in your profile. Collection value, totals, averages, price ranges, filters and price charts are shown in it.
- Each bottle’s original currency is recorded when you save its price, and it never changes on its own.
Choosing your display currency
Since iOS 1.41 and Android 1.2.8, open your Profile and pick a currency under Currency. On the web, use Preferences. The setting follows your account across devices. Before 1.41, totals were always shown in US dollars.
Why original prices are kept
- No silent drift: a bottle’s price stays tied to the currency you actually paid in, whatever exchange rates do later.
- Travel-friendly: bottles bought abroad keep their original currency.
- Comparable totals: values are converted to your display currency using current exchange rates when they are added up.
Where you’ll see it
- Bottle Detail shows the price and currency you entered.
- Collection value and insights show totals in your display currency.
- Edit Bottle lets you confirm or change the currency for that entry.
FAQ
Can I change my display currency away from USD? Yes. Since iOS 1.41 and Android 1.2.8, choose any supported currency under Currency in your profile.
What if exchange rates can’t be loaded? WhiskeyMate shows the amount in its original currency rather than guessing a conversion.
Why does a bar menu show a different currency? Public menus show prices in the venue’s own currency.
