Organizing Collections by Brand vs. a Single All-in-One Collection
Choosing the right method to handle multiple bottles from specific brands
Overview
There’s no single “right” way to organize bottles. Some collectors prefer one big collection with strong search/filter tools, while others prefer multiple collections (for example, by brand, spirit type, location, or purpose). WhiskeyMate supports both approaches—but the ability to create more than one collection can depend on your plan.
Option A: One main collection + search/filters
- Unified browsing: everything is in one place.
- Fast brand browsing: use Filter → Brand and/or Sort → Brand to quickly group what you have.
- Simple maintenance: fewer collections to manage.
- Good for free users: if you’re on a plan limited to a single collection, this is the easiest way to stay organized by brand.
Option B: Multiple collections
- Focused groupings: a “Buffalo Trace shelf” or “Scotch cabinet” can be easier to browse.
- Focused stats: per-collection stats and summaries are easier to interpret when a collection has a clear theme.
Note: Creating additional collections beyond your first collection may require Premium on current builds.
Practical recommendations
- Start simple: if you’re unsure, begin with one collection and rely on search + brand filters/sorts.
- Split when it helps: if you have Premium and a single collection starts feeling too big, create additional collections and move bottles over time by changing a bottle’s collection assignment in the bottle edit flow.
