With WhiskeyMate’s barcode scanning feature, you can add new bottles to your collection in just a few taps. Rather than manually entering brand names, bottle types, or other details, scanning a barcode instantly fetches known information from the database—letting you focus on enjoying your spirits instead of typing.

How to Scan a Barcode
- Open the Add Bottle Screen: Find the Add Bottle or + button in your main navigation.
- Tap the Barcode Icon: Grant camera permissions if prompted, then aim your device at the bottle’s barcode until it’s recognized.
- Review Auto-Filled Fields: WhiskeyMate populates details like brand, spirit type, and possibly the ABV or volume—depending on what’s in the database.
- Add or Modify Details: Enter any missing fields (e.g., price, fill level, or your personal notes) before saving.
Tips & Best Practices
- Ensure Good Lighting: Clear lighting helps the camera accurately read barcodes.
- Manual Overrides: If the auto-filled data isn’t fully accurate, just tap the relevant field to correct it before saving.
- Batch Scanning: For multiple new bottles, rinse and repeat. The scanning flow is optimized for rapid entry.
- Report Unknown Barcodes: If you scan a code not recognized by the database, consider submitting details to help expand coverage for other collectors.
